Soul Sounds: rediscovering your voice

Authentic self-expression is ridiculously easy for children. Children say whatever they are thinking without holding back and it is beautiful! A young child's expression is authentic, innocent, and totally unfiltered. Authentic self-expression for adults on the other hand, is about as simple as public speaking, which is often feared more than death (!).

Enter, FILTERS *gasp*! Filters are imprinted on children through parents, teachers, and other unwitting adult villains. Slowly but surely, the authentic self-expression of children is depleted and replaced by limiting filters of can and can nots, should and should nots, do and do nots. Self-expression slowly dies by the hand of censorship as the child reaches adulthood, molded to society's standards.

I know the process of filtering self-expression (and losing your true voice) sounds a bit dramatic, but bear with me. Ask yourself, "do I express all my needs, wants, and desires daily?". If you answered yes, you are either a) lying to yourself (and me!), b) someone who needs to be teaching/coaching others, or c) a child under the age of 6! By the time we become a legal adult at age 18, we have become so fearful to express our desires that we either constantly hold them in, or, ignore that they even exist--and rightfully so! After all, we were trained for years on what to say based on our audience, our "rank" in the hierarchy of the society/tribe, and other strange unspoken rules. 

The irony is that as our age increases, we have a tendency to stop caring about societal filters and drop them like a hot rock. I can think of at least half a dozen stories of grandparents or the elderly saying whatever they damn well please, much to the chagrin of their audience! I like to think of this phenomenon as reverting back to the inner wisdom we possessed as kids. 

This is where I come in--to help you regain your inner voice and remember what it feels like to fully express yourself. Overriding the imprinted rules and filters is not easy, however, I feel confident that what was lost can be found again. Your voice is begging to be released into the world to benefit your loved ones, friends, co-workers, and most of all, you!
